We then proceed to the scenic Ta Prohm temple, one of the most fascinating and photographed temples, which is still surrounded by forest and buried by massive, centuries-old banyan tree roots.

In the afternoon, we return to “The Great City” of Angkor Thom, a complex of buildings that includes the Bayon temple, which is famous for its 216 huge stone faces sculpted on top of 54 shrines.

Day 4 - Activities

Beang Melea temple and Kompong Kleang floating village.

Today we have an incredible excursion to one of Cambodia’s most real and least touristic floating communities, where we will be able to experience the authentic local lifestyle of Tonle Sap Lake fishermen.

Transfer to Dom Dek village in the morning. If time allows, visit the colorful and authentic local market. Following a diversion, we enter the bizarre ambiance of Kompong Kleang village: a long dirt road flanked with wooden stilts over 10 meters high to protect against floods during the rainy season.

We follow the daily lives of the villagers as they engage in a range of traditional fishing tasks that, as time has stood still, have remained unchanged for centuries. Then, on a typical wooden boat, we ride through the canal that leads into Tonle Sap Lake. We continue on to the floating village, a community that has lived and worked on the river for decades. In addition to individual residences, there are schools, businesses, workshops, and floating restaurants.

In the afternoon, we go north to Beang Melea, one of the last Hindu temples before Buddhist religious reform. The visit is one of the most fascinating in the area because the temple has not been restored and is still entirely immersed in the forest.

We continue on to Prasad Banan, an Angkorian temple at the summit of the hill reachable by descending the original 358-step stone staircase.

We continue the exciting “bamboo train” experience in the afternoon, immersing ourselves in the Cambodian countryside atop a motorized bamboo platform on the historic railway line.

We finish the day with an astonishing excursion to Phnom Sampeu Hill’s cave to witness the incredible spectacle of the dense trail of bats that fly to Tonle Sap Lake every day at 5:30 p.m. to feed.

The tour guides, tickets, and private transportation are all included. [We will suggest you the best accommodation according to your budget idea]
